Part 8: Freedom?

As her vision came to that morning a familiar face of the Shade woke her up. One of Jaern's trusted partners shook her shoulder gently telling her to wake up and that the Honored Maidens were here for the deal.

The restraints were unbuckled and she looked down at her wrists, black and blue bruises could be seen. She rubbed her fingers over the bruises and looked up at her gentle face.

"Why are you being restrained? Are you that much of a flight risk," she asked.

With a smile she looked up at her and replied, "No..I could get out of here if I wanted...I choose not to. I also asked to be drugged to make the time pass quicker. I would go crazy cooped up here for days at a time with nothing but my thoughts to keep me company."

She smiled back and helped her out of bed. Her knees were weak and tired from being in the bed constantly. Her muscles tightened and cramped as she stood, almost falling as she reached her full height.

"You gonna be okay?" she asked

"Yeah, I'll be fine. I need to get dressed and get my ass down there."

She smiled and walked out of the door keeping it unlocked as she left. She looked in her bag to see what she had to wear. The Honored Maidens was an Imperial all female group, she had to look like she belonged. She slipped on a modest outfit and made her way out of the room and down to the living room.

The room was already filled with people from Shade. Ockam grinned at her as she walked down the staircase. Jaern motioned for her to sit next to him. Silently she sat into the chair beside him.

"You will speak when asked...otherwise, leave everything to me." he said in a harsh tone

She nodded gently and sat quietly. Her temper rising she sat there stewing...what if he had led her right to someone that wanted to torture her for information...the possibilities swam around in her head. She heard voices from outside. Ockam and a woman's voice arguing about how many of her people she could bring in. Finally three women came down to the living room. You could cut the tension in the air with a knife. Aadliya was her name, she had a hard face but feminine. She had sympathy in her eyes but was it an act?

She introduced herself and her maidens and she and Jaern began to barter. Her life, the disk, the situation she was in. Aadilya offered up protection from imperials but did not want the disk. Jaern with his agenda clear wanted compensation for his efforts. They were like to bantha's butting heads. She offered shelter and protection but then would give her back to the empire. Jaern knew this would mean death for her...he didn't want that. He wanted her to be indebted to her as long as she could be.

Words flew around the room as neither would budge. She left the offer on the table and then left. Frustrated with how the entire event went, Jaern decided the best thing to do was to barter with her town, give her protection there on neutral ground, and see if the person she stole the disk from would pay to get it back.

"We're leaving..now." he commanded "Get your bag, you are going back to Wild Sands. Ockam poison her, it will be quicker that way." He looked into her eyes and whispered, "you still owe me...your debt has not been paid off."

She smiled gently, "of course Jaern."

Ockam pulled out a vial, she eyed it and he drew near.....then darkness...She only hoped that when she woke she would be free.
