They say you can't truly know what its like to have lost someone you care for until you do. Try doing it twice.
She stood looking out onto the town, a different view from her old house on the west side of town. For some reason the different view made her feel like a new start. She was always migratory. Moving from place to place. When the winds would shift, so would she. The sands, always being her home, echoed solemnly in her head taunting her back.
She hadn't been back to the sands since the day Des walked off into the sunset and died. Or so she had thought. Much like the man he is and was it was never beyond her to surprise her. Anything from showing up in the middle of nowhere to surprise her to lurking in a dark corner watching her dance unnoticed to her. That day, when he walked off into the sun, he didn't die. He was picked up by the Imperial Army and thrown into imprisonment. This didn't matter to her, she had her husband back. Back from the dead....she was just grateful it was him this time and not his twin.
The first time she thought she lost him, another man came in his place. Everything identical, down to the eyes. The eyes that burned into her soul. She became good at seeing his eyes from even beneath the hooded cloak he wore when he would come to watch her from a corner of the room. The only thing missing was the scar. A scar that bonded them. A tiny "L" on his back. Of course back in her medical days, she was a master of medicine. But so that she would always know it was him, the scar would always be an "L". Of course she could have made it less 'obvious' but what fun would that be. She was removing a piece of him, the last piece of him that would set him free forever. They would be able to build a life together away from both of their past lives.
Now that he was back, so much had happened while he was away.
Cyrus had grown into a toddler and was a striking resemblance to his father but with his mother's smile. He was muttering U'I and her reading had finally paid off when he looked at his bantha and declared "i'shuree"...or something like that. She knew her bond with him was something no one could touch.
She looked down off the balcony to see Des and Cyrus playing in the long grass. Cyrus had just hunted a large grasshopper and caught it making small growling noises compared to Des'. The sight of them warmed her soul, these were the days she would keep in her memory. She took out a holocorder and centered it down to them recording their movement and talking. She could hear Des' instructions and how to hunt. She zoomed in on them as he looked directly into the camera and winked at her.
He was home, they were a family again. Or at least until the Imperial Army felt like tearing them apart again. But less we try not to focus on the negative.
She smiled contently and made her way down to them.
